Not medical advice. Applies to all WDHC activities: online submissions, virtual championships, and sanctioned live events. WDHC content, Grip Age™, and training materials are for fitness benchmarking and sport participation only. They do not replace advice from a licensed healthcare provider.
1. General
The World Dead Hang Championship ("WDHC") provides grip-endurance competition, leaderboards, and educational content. Nothing on worlddeadhang.com, in the Athlete Portal, or at WDHC events constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting or intensifying any exercise program.
2. Grip Age™
Grip Age™ is a proprietary training benchmark derived from hang performance and optional dynamometer data. It is not a clinical assessment of biological age, cardiovascular health, or disease risk. Do not use Grip Age for medical decisions, insurance, employment screening, or eligibility determinations outside WDHC sport contexts.
3. Who Should Exercise Caution
Consult a physician before maximal dead hangs if you have or suspect any of the following:
- Shoulder instability, recent shoulder surgery, or hypermobility syndromes
- Elbow, wrist, or finger injuries (including climber's finger or pulley issues)
- Cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, or history of fainting
- Pregnancy or postpartum recovery
- Any condition where hanging from a bar could aggravate symptoms
4. Maximal Effort Hangs
Dead hangs to failure can cause lightheadedness, grip failure, or falls. Use a safe setup: appropriate bar height, clear landing zone, and stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, or dizziness. WDHC does not recommend attempting maximal hangs when fatigued, dehydrated, or without adequate warm-up.
For online submissions, film from a stable setup with a visible timer per the Rulebook. You are responsible for your environment even when competing virtually.
5. Virtual Submissions
Submitting a hang video online carries the same physical risks as training at home or in a gym. WDHC does not supervise your session remotely. Ensure the bar is secure, the floor is clear, and you have a safe way to dismount. Minors should have guardian supervision during filming.
6. Sanctioned Events
At in-person WDHC nights and championships, officials may require withdrawal, medical clearance, or modified participation for safety. Spotters may be required at live events. See the Sanctioned Events Policy and Participation Waiver.
7. Minors
Athletes under 18 require parental or guardian consent. Guardians are responsible for evaluating fitness to participate. WDHC may impose additional supervision requirements at live events.
8. Emergency
Call emergency services (911 in the U.S.) for serious injury or medical emergency. WDHC staff and volunteers are not a substitute for professional medical care.
