Applies to: WDHC Virtual Championships beginning with the inaugural 2027 season. Governs online-only title events run on worlddeadhang.com. The 2026 opening year has no championship standings. In-person events are covered separately by the Sanctioned Events Policy.
1. Purpose
This document defines how WDHC runs fully virtual annual championships: who may compete, how hangs are verified, how winners are determined, and what champions receive. Each season WDHC crowns official world titles in two championships on the same calendar: Amateur Open (Men and Women) and Pro (weight-class titles for qualified athletes). No travel required.
2. Championship Calendar
| Event | Season window | Finals lock | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Opening Year | Launch phase (no championship window) | N/A | Leaderboard & submissions live; no title event |
| 2027 Virtual Championship | Jan 1 to Dec 15, 2027 | Dec 20, 2027 (23:59 UTC) | Inaugural season |
WDHC may publish exact announcement dates for champion reveals on championships.html. Calendar updates do not retroactively disqualify hangs submitted in good faith during the published season window.
3. Eligibility
- Athlete has a verified dead hang on the WDHC global leaderboard during the championship season window.
- Completed Participation Waiver and applicable Media Release at time of submission.
- Minors: valid Parental / Guardian Consent on file.
- Hang filmed and submitted per the official Rulebook (bar standard, timer visible, single continuous take).
- One athlete account per person. Duplicate or fraudulent identities are grounds for disqualification per the Competition Integrity Policy.
4. Championships & Divisions
WDHC runs two annual virtual championships on the same season window and finals lock. An athlete may compete in Amateur Open, Pro, or both if eligible.
4a. Amateur Open Championship
Open to any athlete with a verified hang during the season window. Longest verified hang wins each division:
- Amateur Open Men · longest verified hang in the season window
- Amateur Open Women · longest verified hang in the season window
Leaderboard categories remain Open Men and Open Women; championship titles use the Amateur Open name to distinguish from Pro.
4b. Pro Championship
Open only to athletes who qualify under WDHC Pro thresholds during the season. Best verified hang in your weight class wins:
- Men: Lightweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight (per Pro rulebook thresholds)
- Women: Lightweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight (per Pro rulebook thresholds)
Class is set by bodyweight declared on the verified submission that clears the Pro threshold. The inaugural Pro Championship runs on the 2027 season calendar unless WDHC publishes an earlier Pro finals date.
4c. Future in-person bodyweight classes
On-site weigh-in bodyweight classes are reserved for future sanctioned in-person events. Virtual Pro uses declared bodyweight on verified submissions per pro.html.
5. Submission & Verification
- Submit at worlddeadhang.com/submit.html during the season window.
- WDHC reviewers verify bar compliance, grip, timing, and continuity. Status appears on the leaderboard and in the Athlete Portal.
- Only verified hangs count toward championship standings. Pending or rejected hangs do not.
- An athlete's best verified hang during the season window is their championship entry. Older verified hangs from prior seasons do not carry forward.
- Re-submissions are encouraged. Your best verified time before the finals lock wins.
6. Scoring & Tiebreakers
Primary metric: longest verified dead hang time (seconds), per division.
Tiebreakers (in order):
- Higher Grip Age™ at time of the tying hang (if recorded)
- Earlier verified submission timestamp (first athlete to post the time)
- WDHC official review panel decision (documented and final)
Monthly challenge wins are separate awards. They do not override season-long virtual championship standings unless a published championship rule explicitly states otherwise.
7. Awards & Recognition
Amateur Open champions receive the World Dead Hang Champion title in Amateur Open Men or Amateur Open Women.
Pro champions receive the WDHC Pro Champion title in their weight class.
- Digital champion certificate (certificate template)
- Portal badge and permanent line on the championship archive
- Press and social recognition via WDHC official channels
- Physical medals and prizes announced per season as logistics are finalized
8. Integrity, Appeals & Disqualification
WDHC reserves the right to withhold or revoke a title for rule violations, video fraud, or conduct breaches under the Code of Conduct. Athletes may appeal within 14 days of a published result by emailing hello@worlddeadhangchampionship.com with submission ID and evidence. Appeals are reviewed by WDHC officials; decisions are final for that season.
9. Future In-Person Championships
WDHC may add sanctioned gym nights, regional qualifiers, and live world finals with on-site weigh-ins and bodyweight classes. Virtual championships remain the foundation: every athlete worldwide can compete for an official title online. In-person events will be listed on gyms.html and governed by the Sanctioned Events Policy when announced.
